U.S. Senate: Medtronic Paid Doctors to Cover Up Dangers
Oct. 25, 2012: The investigative report disclosed that Medtronic paid $210 Million to doctors over the course of 14 years to hide the dangers associated with their Infuse Bone Graft product. The report is based on more than 5,000 documents obtained from Medtronic and follows a 16-month investigation from the U.S. Senate Finance Committee.
The industry-sponsored studies made no mention of potential side effects and/or complications. When reports of successful surgeries and treatments were reported, off-label use of the device was on the rise leading to debilitating complications that included severe inflammation, infection, bone less, graft migration, epidural hematoma, retrograde ejaculation, etc.
